The call was made by German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock during a joint press conference on Monday with her Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi in Berlin.

Ramadan is not playing out against a backdrop of "peace, family, and joy" as would be hoped, she added.

Germany and the European Union are keen to support the outcomes of the Aqaba meeting held in Jordan in late February, the German foreign minister stressed.

The Aqaba meeting, which came amid escalating violence in the West Bank and Jerusalem, involved the participation of Palestinian and Israeli leaders as well as high-ranking officials from Jordan, Egypt and the United States.

A joint statement released following the meeting reaffirmed the need to de-escalate the situation and prevent further violence.

Both Israeli and Palestinians later held a follow-up meeting in the Red Sea City of Sharm El-Sheikh in March to halt unilateral measures.

The Munich Group has been active since their quadripartite meeting in 2020 to discuss ongoing conflicts between Palestine and Israel.

Their last meeting was held in New York in September 2022 on the sidelines of the 77th United Nations General Assembly.

The group has affirmed on more than occasion the necessity of the two-state solution as well as the importance of ongoing negotiations between the two sides.

The two-state solution continues to provide the best framework for both Israelis and Palestinians to live in peace, dignity, security and self-determination, the German foreign minister asserted.

Germany will remain active in the contribution to peace efforts in Palestine and Israel, Baerbock added in the press conference.

Palestine-Israeli escalation

Tensions have been running high since the re-election of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in late December.

As a result, several raids were launched over the past few months by the Israeli forces on occupied territories of the West Bank including Jenin and Nablus.

Conflict flared up with Israel's far-right national security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir’s storming of Al-Aqsa mosque in early January.

Israel has killed at least 93 Palestinians and wounded many others since the beginning of the year.

On Monday, the Israeli forces launched a deadly raid on Nablus leaving two Palestinians dead.
