“I dream of becoming a coach in the Premier League. Being a coach is more difficult than being a player,” Elneny was quoted as saying by UAE news agency WAM on Tuesday amid his participation in the 12th Sharjah Ramadan Majlis event.
“I hope that Manchester City will win the UEFA Champions League title this season,” he added.
During his seven-year spell with the Gunners, Elneny has made 155 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring six goals and assisting 10 times.
Arsenal announced on 26 February that the 30-year-old Egyptian international has signed a new contract that will run until 2024.
The former FC Basel player also heaped praise on Egypt’s national team skipper and Liverpool star winger Mohamed Salah, stressing that Mo is a true legend.
“Lionel Messi is my favorite player. Salah is an Egyptian and Arab legend and all are proud of his achievements in the Premier League,” Elneny concluded.
Elneny made his last appearance with the Gunners on 9 January, playing the full 90 minutes and finding the net in his side’s 3-0 win over Oxford United in the FA Cup.
During the current season, the Egyptian midfielder, who is currently on the sidelines after undergoing a knee surgery in February, has made just eight appearances in different competitions, including five in the Premier league.
Elneny, who made his debut with Egypt’s senior football team in 2011, has been a key member in the squad in recent years, guiding the team to finish as runners-up in the 2017 African Cup of Nations. He also helped the Pharaohs to reach the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia to appear for the first time in the prestigious competition since 1990.
