No injuries from limited fire in Cairo church on the eve of Palm Sunday

The Coptic Orthodox Church announced on Saturday evening that no fatalities or injuries resulted from a limited fire that broke out at a church in north Cairo but was quickly controlled.

In a statement on its official Facebook page, the Coptic Orthodox Church revealed that the fire broke out on the roof of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Zawaya Al-Hamara district and was put out swiftly by the Civil Defence fire engines.

The prosecution is currently investigating the causes of the incident.

This week, millions of Egyptian Coptic Christians will be marking Palm Sunday and Easter in huge Mass in churches across the country.

According to the Coptic Orthodox Calendar, Palm Sunday falls on Sunday 9 April and Easter on Sunday 16 April.
