The screenings were conducted by 2,400 medical teams on students aged 6 to 12 in 30,000 public and private schools, explained Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the health ministry.
They included assessment of weight, height, and haemoglobin levels, Abdel-Ghaffar added.
According to recent government figures, the percentage of children in primary schools who suffer from anaemia was estimated at 33 percent, while 13.5 percent were estimated to suffer from obesity and five percent suffer from dwarfism.
The ministry’s efforts to screen children on these three conditions come under the 100 Million Healthy Lives Presidential Initiative.
