The film will compete in the French festival's 62nd Semaine de la Critique (Critics’ Week) in Cannes between May 17 and 25.
Critics’ Week’s Artistic Director Ava Cahen unveiled the line-up on Monday. The selections include 11 features: seven in competition and four as special screenings.
InshAllah Walad's cast includes Muna Hawa, Haitham Omari, Salwa Nakkara, Yumna Marwan, Mohammad Al-Jizawi and Eslam Al-Awadi.
The film is written by screenwriters Amjad Al-Rasheed and Delphine Agut, and Rula Nasser. The latter also serves as a producer with Aseel Abu Ayyash.
It is produced by Imaginarium Films, Bayt Al-Shawareb and Georges Films.
It received multiple awards and grants, including the La Biennale di Venezia Prize, the El-Gouna Film Festival’s award and the Festival International de Films de Fribourg’s award.
The 90-minute drama tells the story of Nawal after the death of her husband, as she has to save her daughter and home in a society where having a son is the difference between privilege and discrimination.
