Ahly struggled at times against Smouha, but two goals from Mohamed Sherif and Mahmoud Kahraba were enough to seal a comfortable win and maintain their lead at the top of the table.
"We achieved an important win before temporarily closing the league file to prepare for the African Champions League," the Swiss tactician told reporters after the game.
"We were not in our best condition due to the upcoming important match against Raja in the Champions League - such matches affect the players' and coaching staff concentration."
"Despite not being completely satisfied with the performance, Ahly achieved what was required and dominated the game," Koller added.
On a separate note, Koller said he was unhappy with the actions of Ahly captain Mohamed El-Shennawy, who was sent off in the match after hitting an opponent in the face.
"El-Shennawy's behaviour was not necessary because he is the team captain and a role model for the other players," Koller said.
The win over Smouha raised the Red devils their score to 53 points, leading the league table with a comfortable 5-point lead over the second-placed team, Future.
They will now turn their attention to the African Champions League quarter-finals, where they will face Morocco's Raja in the first leg on Saturday.
"I am happy after the decision was made allowing the fans to attend the Raja match in large numbers. I look forward to seeing a big audience again at Cairo stadium," Koller said.
