“The two brotherly countries [Egypt and the UAE] expressed their appreciation to the International Red Cross for its efforts in supporting the process of ensuring the safety of Egyptian soldiers,” the Egyptian foreign ministry said in a statement Thursday morning.
This step comes as part of the two countries' efforts to restore calm through continuous communication with the Sudanese sides to ensure restraint, de-escalation and a return to the political track, added the statement.
Egypt and the UAE are committed to continuing their efforts to stop the fighting and protect civilians, the statement added.
The two countries also stress the importance of intensifying efforts to return to the political and dialogue framework to resolve all disagreements to achieve political stability and security in Sudan, the Egyptian foreign ministry said.
Earlier on Thursday, the Egyptian Armed Forces issued a statement detailing the efforts it has undertaken to secure the return of Egyptian troops to the homeland, who were on a training mission with the Sudanese army at the time of the outbreak of fighting in the country.
