Erling Haaland struck a late goal on Wednesday in Manchester City’s 4-1 win over Arsenal to surpass Mohamed Salah’s record for most Premier League goals in a 38-game season.

With 33 league goals, the Norwegian striker has surpassed Salah's 32-goal haul from the 2017/18 season and is inching closer to the all-time record of 34 set by Andy Cole and Alan Shearer.

Haaland needs just two more goals from City's remaining seven games to claim the outright record.

Additionally, his 49 goals in all competitions this season are already the most scored by a Premier League player, surpassing the previous bests of 44 by Salah and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

The 21-year-old Haaland is also the top scorer in this season's Champions League with 12 goals from eight appearances.

Salah held the 38-game Premier League scoring record for four years, but Haaland, in his debut season in England, now looks set to etch his name as the most prolific goal scorer in the competition.
