Egypt committed to diplomatic and humanitarian efforts for stability in Sudan: PM

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said on Thursday that Egypt is fully committed to supporting international efforts to stop the violence and conflict in Sudan.

During a cabinet meeting on Thursday, Madbouly expressed his hopes for Sudan to regain stability and security as soon as possible.

He also noted that since the start of the crisis, Egyptian institutions have been actively working to facilitate the safe return of Egyptian expats in Sudan.

He thanked the members of the Egyptian diplomatic and consular missions in Sudan, including the defence attaché, for their efforts in securing the return of Egyptians in conflict zones, saying they "perform their work under very difficult and complex circumstances to secure the return of the Egyptians who are in areas of conflict."

The Prime Minister also extended his condolences to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the family of Mohamed El-Gharawi, the assistant administrative attaché at the Egyptian embassy in Khartoum, who was killed on Monday while carrying out evacuation procedures for Egyptian citizens.

So far, Egypt has evacuated 1,539 citizens from Sudan: 446 via land and 189 via air.

However, there are still around 10,000 Egyptian citizens in Sudan, including 5,000 students, who are trying to leave amid ongoing clashes that have resulted in the deaths of 512 people and the injuries of thousands.

In addition to Egyptian citizens, the country also received over 10,000 individuals including foreign nationals through Egyptian-Sudanese border crossings.
