Egyptian side's management are reportedly ruing their decision not to snap up striker Emmanuel Clottey at a bargain price

Ghana

Ahly's management has admitted to making a mistake by refusing to Berekum Chelsea star Emmanuel Clottey when the Ghanian player's agent recently offered him to the Cairo giants.

“It is our fault and it is a shame that we didn’t make him our player at a very cheap price,” Ahly’s marketing director, Adly Al-Keai, was quoted as saying on ghanasoccernet.

“An agent offered him [Clottey] to us to play a short time before the Champions League ... we refused him because of our coach Manuel Jose['s decision]," Al-Keai added.

"Clottey will go to Europe and Ahly cannot get him now ... he is very good and any European club can sign him easily."

The 24-year-old attacker has performed well in the CAF Champions League this season, scoring 11 goals to emerge as the tournament's leading marksman and bringing him near equalling Stephen Worghu’s 13-goal haul in 2007.

Clottey scored a hat-trick in the group B opener against Zamalek, helping his team to a difficult 3-2 win. He also performed well against TP Mazembe, helping his side come from behind to draw 2-2 in Lubumbashi last week.

Italian team AS Roma is reported to have offered 3 million British pounds to sign the Berekum Chelsea ace.
