Egypt makes progress in int'l research publications: Higher education Minister

Egypt made significant progress in international research publications, according to a report from SCImago released in 2022, Minister of High Education Ayman Ashour announced on Saturday.

Egypt's global ranking is now 24th among 233 countries, with 44,219 international research publications, 388 h-index laboratories, and 42,493 citations.

Compared to 2021, Egypt progressed two positions and accounted for 1.13 percent of the total global output of international publications. 

Egypt also achieved first place in Africa, among 58 countries, for the third consecutive time since 2020, producing 27 percent of  Africa's total output of international publications.

​Head of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology Mahmoud Sakr highlighted Egypt's progress in various scientific fields such as agricultural sciences, chemistry, engineering sciences, medicine, immunology and microbiology, physics, and mathematics.

In agriculture, Egypt ranked first in Africa and 19th among 222 countries, while in chemistry, Egypt ranked first in Africa and 18th among 194 countries.

In engineering, Egypt ranked first in Africa and 22nd globally out of 208 countries, advancing by two positions from the previous year. It ranked first in medicine in Africa and 25th globally out of 225 countries.

In immunology and microbiology, Egypt again ranked first in Africa and 19th among 209 countries, advancing by two positions since last year's ranking.

In physics, Egypt ranked first in Africa and 25th globally out of 193 countries, rising three positions in this year's ranking compared to last year.

In mathematics, Egypt ranked first in Africa and 22nd globally out of 192 countries, three positions higher on this year's ranking than last year's.
