"I condemn the deaths of civilians in the Israeli airstrikes," added Wennesland, urging "all concerned to exercise maximum restraint and avoid an escalation."
In the early hours of Tuesday, Israel launched airstrikes which struck multiple residential buildings in the Israeli-besieged strip, killing at least 13 people, including eight children and women.
"I remain fully engaged with all sides in an attempt to avoid a broader conflict with devastating consequences for all," Wennesland stressed.
Meanwhile, Jordanian Foreign Ministry spokesman Sanan Majali called on the international community to act immediately to stop the Israeli aggression and provide protection for the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the rest of the occupied territories.
The Organisation of Islamic Cooperartion (OIC) also said in a statement that this new “barbaric massacre" is an extension of the brutal Israeli military aggression against the Palestinian people and another flagrant violation of international and humanitarian law.
The OIC held Israel “fully responsible for the repercussions of the continuation of these crimes, aggressions and organized terrorism that threaten to undermine security and stability in the region.”
It called on the international community “to shoulder its responsibilities and provide international protection to the Palestinian people, and to hold the Israeli occupation accountable for all its crimes and violations against the Palestinian people, their land and holy sites.”
Earlier today, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned in a statement the recent Israeli escalation, describing it as a violation of international law, warning that such attacks on the Palestinians would undermine efforts to achieve security in the region.
