Gulf music scene mourns death of Kuwaiti singer Abdul Karim Abdul Qader

Many Arab cultural entities and personas have mourned the death of Kuwaiti renowned singer Abdul Karim Abdul Qader.

Abdul Qader passed away on Friday at the age of 82, after a long battle with health issues.

One of the most famous singers of the Gulf country, Abdul Qader was mourned by the GCC state’s ministries with emotional official statements.

“The late great artist left a huge mark on the Kuwaiti art scene through which he gained fame throughout the great Arab world with his exquisite art and authentic voice,” Kuwaiti Minister of Information Anwar Murad stated on the Kuwaiti News Agency (KUNA) Saturday.

“He sang many lyrics that reflect our heritage,” he added.

Among the cultural entities which mourned the departure of Abdul Qader are Saudi Arabia’s Entertainment Authority and the Emirati Musicians Association, as well as many renowned stars like Saudi Rashed Al-Majeed, Emirati Hussain Al Jassmi and Ahlam, among others.

Throughout his 60-year career, Abdul Qader presented a variety of Kuwaiti music forms, becoming one of the most celebrated singers in the Gulf between the 70s and the 90s.

Red El-Zeyara (Return the Visit), Jamr El-Wada (Farewell Embers), Mohal (Impossible), Men Bein El-Nas (From Among the People), Haza Anta (This is You) are among Abdul Qader’s currently most-heard songs, from his large and influential catalogue.
