Belgrade-to-Cairo flights are scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, while Cairo-to-Belgrade flights are on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, according to Air Serbia's website.

The cost of a one-way economy ticket ranges from EGP 5,000 to EGP 10,000, equivalent to EUR 148 to 297, including taxes, the website added.

A direct flight from Belgrade to Cairo takes about three hours.

"Egypt's rich culture and history attract tourists from all over the world, and its climate makes it an appealing destination year-round," said Boško Rupić, general manager, commercial and strategy, at Air Serbia on the company’s website.

The decision to introduce regular nonstop flights between Belgrade and Cairo was made in response to demand from passengers in Serbia and the wider Balkan region, with the aim of facilitating tourism and travel between the two locations, he added.

The Egyptian economy depends on the tourism sector as a crucial source of foreign currency.

Egypt's tourism industry was hit hard in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The number of visitors dropped sharply from 13.1 million in 2019 to 3.7 million. However, the industry has been recovering gradually over the past two years.

The number of tourists rose to eight million in 2021 and 11.7 million in 2022.

Egyptian officials expect the figure to rise to 15 million in 2023.
