EgyptAir Opens Skies to Dhaka: New Direct Flight Takes Off

The first EgyptAir flight between Cairo and Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, flew from Cairo International Airport on Sunday as part of Egypt’s strategic plan to expand its network of airlines across the world, announced the Ministry of Civil Aviation Monday.

The flight, which was operated at a 50 percent discount for economy and business class, was received in Dhaka by several relevant officials from both Bangladesh and Egypt.

EgyptAir will operate two flights per week on its B787-9 Dreamliner from Cairo International Airport to Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday and Wednesday, EgyptAir CEO Ihab Al-Tahtawy at the press conference that was held in celebration of the launch.

According to EgyptAir's website, the direct flight from Cairo to Dhaka which takes 7 hours and 15 minutes cost EGP 11,375 ($368) for economy class, and EGP 19,730 ($638) for business class.

The new line will serve a large segment of passengers, Al-Tahtawy asserted, as well as expand EgyptAir’s current point-to-point network-70 points across the world.

EgyptAir received the plane, on its return flight from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, with the tradition of spraying water on the plane, which is an international tradition followed to welcome the launch of any new line.

The company announced its plan for the direct flight in April.
