Brazilian coach Jorvan Vieira announced that he agreed to coach Zamalek, despite their low placing in the CAF Champions League Group stage.
"I know everything about Zamalek because I watched their last games in the Champions league," Vieira told reporters after he arrived in Cairo airport to meet Zamalek's president, Mamdouh Abbas, to finalise the deal.
"I know Zamalek players very well and I am ready to lead them," the new coach added.
"I am happy to be in Egypt and I am ready to compete despite the team's unrest."
One of the Cairo giant's board members, Ibrahim Youssef, announced Friday that Brazilian Jorvan Vieira is close to becoming Zamalek’s new coach, following the departure of Hassan Shehata.
The 59-year-old, who coached several Moroccan clubs early in his career, arrived to Cairo and met Zamalek's president on Friday evening to finalise a deal to become Zamalek’s new coach.
"Vieira has signed a one-year contract tonight. He will earn $30,000 as a monthly salary," Youssef told Al-Ahram’s Arabic-language sports website.
