"Resolving Arab crises is the highest and noblest goal of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and the Egyptian state.,” Fahmy told the Egyptian TV station ahead of the Arab Summit in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Friday.

“Supporting joint Arab work is not just rhetoric but is backed by real actions,” he added.

The conflict in Sudan and the developments in Palestine will be the top issues addressed in the summit meetings, he noted.

President El-Sisi arrived in Jeddah on Thursday to participate in the Arab Summit.

The presidential spokesman said that the current summit is different because it witnesses the return of Syria with its full membership in the Arab League.

“Egypt looks forward to this return contributing to finding a settlement to the Syrian crisis in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2254 to end the suffering of the Syrian people and put an end to external interventions and militias so that the Syrian people can regain security and stability towards a better future,” he said.

On Thursday, Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad arrived in Jeddah to participate in the summit.

Earlier this month, the Arab League reinstated the membership of Syria after a 12-year-suspension.

On developments in the dispute over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), the presidential spokesperson said Egypt defends its right to life and water.

“It is an issue that the Egyptian president and state institutions do not compromise on,” he said.

Egypt respects Ethiopia's rights in development and is ready to offer its expertiese to all friendly countries, Fahmy noted.

The latest developments in the dispute on the Ethiopian dam are expected to be discussed during the summit in a closed session, according to news reports.

In March the Arab League Council placed the GERD issue as a permanent topic on the council’s agenda.
