Inshallah Walad, from director Amjad Al-Rasheed, earned praise in the post-premiere Q&A with the crew and international actors, critics, and media figures.
The cast and crew intcluded actors Islam Al-Awadi and Mohammad Jizawi, and producers Aseel Abu Ayyash and Youssef Abdelnabi among others.
Inshallah Walad is competing in the French festival's 62nd Semaine de la Critique (Critics’ Week) in Cannes 17-25 May.
The 90-minute drama tells the story of Nawal, who, after the death of her husband, has to save her daughter and home in a society where having a son is the difference between privilege and discrimination.
Inshallah Walad was backed by different entities, including the 79th Venice International Film Festival, Jordan's Royal Film Commission and Doha Film Institute.
Co-written by Al-Rasheed alongside Delphine Augte and Rula Nasser, the film stars Hawa, Haitham Omari, Salwa Nakkara, Yumna Marwan, Al-Jizawi, Al-Awadi, and Celina Rababa.
Edited by the prolific Ahmed Hafez, the sound is mixed by Nour Halawani and scored by Jerry Lane.
Born in 1985, Al-Rasheed holds an MFA in cinematic arts with a focus on directing and editing. His filmography includes Bitter Days (2010) and Hit The Road (2011).
