The 28-year-old Egyptian international broke his four-month goal drought in the Turkish League with a goal for Trabzonspor in the 3-1 defeat to Fenerbahce.

TV replays showed Akaydin spitting at Trezeguet while he was prostrating on the ground amid his celebration with the goal.

"We strongly condemn the inhumane act against our football player Mahmoud Trezeguet during the match we played with Fenerbahce on May 18, 2023," Trabzonspor said in a statement via its official website.

"It is disgraceful and disgusting that Fenerbahce player Samet Akaydin's 'turning' spit on our player while he was prostrating after scoring the goal," the statement added.

Trabzonspor also called on both the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) and Fenerbahce management to take "severe and quick action" against Akaydin.

"We call on the entire sports community to come together, to reject such aggression and inhumane acts, and to protect the true values of football, so that sport can be rebuilt on the basis of friendship, love and respect," the statement concluded.

Akaydin denied spitting at Trezeguet intentionally, stressing that these are just "immoral allegations" that always happen with athletes through social media.

Meanwhile, Fenerbahce also issued a statement accusing Trabzonspor of being unfair to Akaydin for issuing such a statement, stressing that the player himself confirmed that it was just a "manipulation" through changing camera angles.

Thursday's goal marked Trezeguet's first since his strike against Antalyaspor, sealing a 2-0 victory, back on February 1st.

In early March, the Pharaohs player suffered a muscle injury during a Turkish league encounter against Umraniyespor, forcing him to spend six weeks on the sidelines.

Trezeguet returned to action on 16 April in Trabzonspor's goalless draw with Besiktas.

Throughout his time with Trabzonspor, the versatile winger has amassed a total of 10 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions.

Currently, Trabzonspor sits in eighth place in the league table with 48 points, which places them a significant 28 points behind league leaders Galatasaray. Fenerbahce lie third with 71 points.
