According to a statement posted on the club's official website on Sunday, medical scans revealed the injury to the player’s left knee.

"The player will undergo surgery in Germany after finalizing the travel documents," Zamalek's doctor, Mohamed Osama, was quoted on the club's website as saying.

"The recovery programme for El-Wensh will be determined during the surgery according to the followed protocol of the same injury," Osama added.

El-Wensh, who is 27 years old, was injured and had to leave the pitch during the 27th matchday of the Egyptian Premier League, where they lost 2-1 to Ismaily.

He had previously spent a long time off the field recovering from surgery for a muscle injury sustained during the league opener against Smouha.

Zamalek is currently fourth in the Egyptian League table, having played 27 games and earning 46 points, trailing 13 points behind league leaders and title contenders, Ahly.
