The embassy of India in Cairo organized a Beach Clean-up campaign, in collaboration with the Egyptian authorities at Nabq Bay beach in Sharm El-Sheikh, on 21 May 2023, as a part of beach cleaning drives in the G20 member countries and guest countries as an outcome of India's G20 presidency.

Several activities took place under this campaign to improve the health of oceans through collective action. A pledge was administered to all the volunteers who dedicated themselves to adopt sustainable and an environmentally-friendly life. During the Beach Clean drive, all the volunteers actively participated and collected about 63 kilograms of marine plastic waste from the beach.

A strong message was expressed by forming a human chain and all volunteers committed that they would move towards 'No Plastic' in their life. Furthermore, a signature campaign was organized and all the volunteers expressed their commitment to keeping the beaches clean. Through the Beach Clean-up campaign, the participants succeeded in drawing the community’s attention to the serious problem of litter, especially marine plastic litter, and its impact on seas and oceans.

More than 100 volunteers attended the event, and many messages were posted from the mission's social media handles to mobilize participation. Egyptian media provided extensive coverage to the Beach Clean-up event. The event was supported by Egypt's Ministry of Environment, the Indian community in Egypt, as well as local organizations such as the Thalassains-guardians of the sea with considerable interest and enthusiasm.
