“Egypt looks forward to the continuing of the efforts of the 6 + 6 Joint Committee, which was formed by the House of Representatives, the High Council of State, to prepare the legislative framework for simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible in a way that allows the Libyan people to achieve their aspirations and build their future,” read a statement released on Wednesday by the Egyptian foreign ministry.
On Tuesday, the Libyan House of Representatives and the High Council of State reached an agreement to start finalizing election laws to hold presidential and parliamentary elections, which had been postponed more than once in the last five years.
The 12-member 6+6 Committee was formed in March, comprising an equal number of representaives from parliament and high council of state, with the task of formulating legislation to regulate elections in the country.
