Ahly midfielder Hamdi Fathy is unlikely to appear in the African Champions League final against Wydad Casablanca after sustaining a hamstring injury, Egyptian media reported on Sunday.

Ahly will host the first leg in Cairo on 4 June, while the second leg will be played in Morocco a week later.

Local reports claimed that the 28-year-old Fathy will be out for at least three weeks after suffering a serious muscle injury during training on Saturday. The results of the medical examination will be released on Sunday, they added.

Ahly has remained silent on Fathy’s alleged injury.

Fathy, who joined Ahly from league rivals Enppi in January 2019, has played a key role in Ahly's Champions League campaign this season, scoring three goals in 10 appearances so far.

In the domestic league, he has scored only one goal in 17 appearances with the Reds so far. However he has been a key figure in Marcel Koller's formation.

Ahly secured their fourth successive Champions League final appearance with a commanding 4-0 aggregate victory over Esperance of Tunisia at the Cairo International Stadium on Friday.

By reaching their 16th final, Ahly remain on course to make a record-extending 11th appearance in the Champions League title competition.

Defending champions Wydad, who beat South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-finals after a 2-2 draw on the away goals rule, will face Ahly in a repeat of the 2022 final, which Wydad won 2-0 in Rabat.
