Egypt to hold mega bicycle marathon on Wednesday at new capital

Egypt’s Ministry of Youth and Sports announced on Monday that it will hold a mega bicycle marathon in the New Administrative Capital (NAC) on Wednesday in celebration of World Bicycles Day.

Celebrated annually on 3 June, World Bicycles Day emphasizes the benefits of bicycles as a sustainable and affordable means of transportation that can improve air quality and access to social services while combatting climate change. 

Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy invited people of all ages to participate in the marathon by bringing their bicycles to Al-Rashdan Mosque in Nasr City district by 4:30am, where transportation will be provided to the new capital, a statement by the ministry said.

The New Administrative Capital is located between the Cairo-Suez and Cairo-Ain Sokhna roads, 60 km east of downtown Cairo. 

Thousands of young men and women are expected to participate in the marathon which will be attended by Sobhy, along with a number of other ministers, the statement noted.

The marathon will start from Administrative Control Authority building, passing city landmarks to reach the government district in NAC.
