Fatal crash on Cairo-Assiut desert road leaves three dead, 27 injured

A minibus collision with a truck on the Cairo-Assiut western desert road resulted in three deaths and 27 injuries on Tuesday.

Security statement reported that the crash took place between Tahma and Dahshur villages in Giza governorate.

Ambulances rushed to the scene to rescue survivors.

The deceased were transported to Tamia Central Hospital in Fayoum and to 6 October City Central Hospital in Giza.

The Public Prosecution is investigating the crash.

In recent years, the government has expanded and upgraded road networks and implemented road-safety measures to reduce fatal incidents.

CAPMAS reported a 9.3 percent decline in traffic injuries in Egypt in 2021, with 51,511 incidents compared to 56,789 in 2020.

However, traffic deaths in Egypt rose 15.2 percent in 2021, with 7,101 fatalities compared to 6,164 the previous year.
