Hanan Turk as Sister Teresa
The rising Egyptian actress Reem Hilal describes her role in the TV series Al-Okht Teresa (Sister Teresa) as a turning point in drama and a new experience for her, Al-Ahram Arabic news portal reports.
"The exceptional direction, using the most advanced shooting techniques, as well as the exceptional script, are the most important reasons behind the soaps' high viewership," says Hilal. She highlights that Bilal Fadl's script referred to some situations real-life situations to discuss important social issues and so that it is closer to reality for the viewers, quotes the official Egyptian news agency, MENA.
Hilal expresses her happiness to play Sherine, actress Hanan Turk's youngest sister in the programme. Playing Sherine is easy, yet elusive. Hilal appreciates the positive feedback from the audience on her role, and adds that she had never embodied such a character: a girl supporting her older sister throughout all her hardships and offering advice to everyone around her.
Sister Teresa tackles the Coptic-Muslim relationship in Egypt, which has seen clashes both during the Mubarak-era and increasingly so after Egypt's January 2011 revolution. Most recently, Muslims burned down a number of Coptic-owned businesses and residences in Dahshour, south of the capital. Approximately 120 Coptic families were forced to flee from the town in fear for their lives.
The soap attacks Islamic radicals and calls for harmony among all people, despite their different race, colour and religion as it is one of Islam's teachings.
Sister Teresa, written by Bilal Fadl and directed by Hossam Al-Gohary, stars Ahmed Azmy, Tarek El-Dosoky, Samy El-Adl and Safaa Galal. The series is her third working experience with actress Hanan Turk after Hanem Bent Basha (The Pasha's Daughter) and Noona El-Mazoona (Noona the Novel Writer).
