Egypt is Jill Biden’s second stop on a week-long, four-country tour in the region which started with Jordan where she attended the wedding of Jordanian Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah on Thursday.
“While in Egypt, Dr Biden will meet with women and youth and highlight US investments aimed at supporting education initiatives and increasing economic opportunity”, the US embassy in Cairo said in its statement on the visit. The embassy added that during her visit, the US First Lady will continue to build on her work to empower young people.
The visit also reaffirms the commitment of the US to strengthening partnerships and advancing shared priorities in the region, the US embassy said.
This is the first time for Jill Biden to visit Egypt and the Middle East as the US First Lady.
Following Egypt, the US First Lady will head to Morocco and Portugal.
