Osimhen edged out competition from Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez and last year’s Serie A MVP Rafael Leao of AC Milan to claim the award.
The 25-year-old becomes the first African player to receive the Striker of the Year award since its inception in the 2018/2019 season. Fabio Quagliarella was the inaugural recipient.
Osimhen's impressive goal-scoring record of 25 goals and four assists in 31 Serie A appearances has been pivotal in Napoli's triumph this season, as they ended a 33-year wait for the league title.
Furthermore, the Super Eagles striker is in contention for the Paulo Rossi Award, given to the top scorer in the Italian top-flight league at the end of the season, as he is currently leading the charts with four goals more than his closest rival, Martinez, heading into the final matchday.
Additionally, Osimhen was named the Best Young Player in Serie A for the 2021-2022 campaign, further highlighting his exceptional talent and potential.
