The sites will now require credit cards, bank cards or pre-paid Meeza cards for entry.

The first group, including the Edfu, Kom Ombo, Philiae and Abu Simbel temples in Aswan, went cashless in early May.

The transition is part of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities’s plan to digitize entry to all archaeological attractions in Egypt.

Cash entry will be temporarily allowed for Egyptian visitors only.

Cash entry to these sites will also be allowed for school trips, and only until the launch of the new electronic ticketing portal for such trips, according to Khaled Sherif, digital transformation assistant to the tourism and antiquities minister.

Group tickets for tourists bought by tour agents must now also be purchased with bank cards or transfers, as well as cash payment cards.
