"The visit is a reflection of the progress in Egyptian-Turkish relations in recent times, as both countries have demonstrated a keenness for fully restoring their bilateral relations to a normal state," Shoukry said in a statement.

Following Erdoğan's re-election last week, El-Sisi and Erdoğan swiftly decided to upgrade diplomatic relations between the two countries, including the exchange of ambassadors.

During a phone call, the two presidents emphasized their shared intention to strengthen ties and enhance cooperation, according to the Egyptian presidential spokesperson.

Additionally, they expressed a desire to foster economic cooperation and coordination on regional issues, including matters concerning Palestine, Libya and Syria.

Last month, Cairo and Ankara reached an agreement on a timeline for upgrading diplomatic relations, as announced by Shoukry in a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu during an official visit to Ankara.

The efforts to normalize relations between the two countries come after a decade of strained ties.
