The ministry expressed its deep concern over Israel’s killing, maiming, arrest, detention and infliction of trauma on innocent Palestinian children, Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.
The latest victim was two-year-old Mohammed Haitham Tamimi from the village of Nabi Saleh, near Ramallah, who succumbed to head wounds caused by live ammunition deliberately fired by Israeli occupying forces, said the ministry in a statement.
This heart-wrenching incident underscores the consistent disregard shown by Israeli forces towards Palestinian lives, including those of children, the statement added.
The United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process has condemned the killing of the Palestinian toddler by Israeli security forces.
"I condemn and am deeply saddened by the death of a two-year-old Palestinian boy, who was critically injured by Israeli security forces’ gunfire in Al Nabi Saleh," said Tor Wennesland on Twitter.
He added that "civilians and particularly children continue to bear the brunt of this conflict" and urged the Israeli authorities to bring "those responsible to be held to account."
Tamimi’s death brings the total number of Palestinian children killed by Israeli forces in 2023 to 27, based on figures from a UN report in May. Of these, seven were killed in the Gaza Strip, and 20 in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
