The plant will be built by Masdar, the Egyptian renewable energy firm Infinity Power, and the construction giant Hassan Allam Utilities.
Upon completion, the new plant, which will be built on an area of 3,000 square kilometres, will generate 10 gigawatts (GW), explained Mohammed El-Khayat, the Executive Chairman of the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA), during a press conference.
The onshore wind project will produce 47,790 GWh of clean energy annually once it is completed.
For his part, the CEO of Masdar Mohamed Jameel Al-Ramahi said the project marks the start of broader cooperation with Egypt in the field of renewable energy.
Under its National Climate Strategy 2050, Egypt aims to reduce carbon emissions through the use of renewable energy sources and alternative energy forms.
