The festival will screen 16 films from various European countries: Austria, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.
The screenings include: The Quiet Girl by Irish director Colm Bairéad,which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best International Feature Film; I Am Zlatan by Swedish director Jens Sjogren, which tells the story of the world-famous Swedish footballer Zlatan Ibrahimović; and Sugar and Stars, starring Algerian actor Riadh Belaiche, which will be making its World Premiere at the event.
The festival will also hold numerous events to promote European cinema and foster collaboration between European and Saudi filmmakers.
Guests of Honour at the festival include well-known directors Nuno Beato, Sebastien Tulard and Isabel Fernández - from Portugal, France and Spain, respectively.
Turkey-born Kurdish actress Zübeyde Bulut will be attending a screening of playing her German film Sisters Apart and also co-chairing a panel discussion on the relationship between agents and actors.
Acclaimed Dutch culture researcher Willemien Sanders will be participating in a panel discussion on telling stories about women in film.
The 2nd European Film Festival is co-organized by: the Delegation of the European Union in Riyadh, the embassies of various EU member states, and the Arabia Pictures Entertainment - a media and entertainment company based in Saudi Arabia.
