According to a statement by the spokesperson of the Egyptian presidency, El-Sisi also ordered the establishment of a museum in the new location, which would house both the artistic and archaeological works present in the existing tombs of these iconic figures.

The new museum would also include biographies for iconic figures in addition to their belongings, added the statement.

El-Sisi also directed that the process of transporting the remains of these figures from the existing cemeteries to the new cemetery would be carried out by specialists and experts.

Informing the public

The president also directed to form a committee, headed by the Prime Minister, which would study development necessities behind the transfer of tombs in the historic neighborhoods of Sayeda Nafisa and Imam Shafi'i in south Cairo in order to reach an integrated vision and recommendations that would be announced to the public before 1 July.

The committee would include specialists and archaeologists in addition to representatives from all concerned authorities and engineering consulting firms.

In recent months, the government has moved a number of cemeteries, including tombs for some high-profile historic figures, from different parts of the capital to new burial locations, citing eminent domain in order to construct bridges and highways in order to overcome traffic bottlenecks inside Cairo as well as to connect the capital to growing residential areas in its suburbs.
