The Pharaohs’ coach Rui Vitoria will do without key players Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah and Ahly trio Mohamed El-Shennawy, Hamdi Fathy and Mohamed Abdel-Moneim as the tactician decided to rest them.

Eintracht Frankfurt new recruit Omar Marmoush, who has been stretched off from Guinea game on Wednesday with a back injury, has been left out.

Nantes FC striker Mostafa Mohamed was also rested from this game.

Moreover, the 53-year-old coach sees this as an opportunity to give playing time to new players and assess their abilities ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

“The friendly game against South Sudan is a chance to discover new talents,” Vitoria told the pre-game press conference.

Sunday’s friendly will mark the first-ever meeting between the two national teams, as it follows South Sudan's independence from north in July 2011.

Egypt have booked their place in the AFCON 2023 finals after leading Group D of the qualifiers with 12 points, while South Sudan are suffering the bottom of Group G with three points.
