According to the announcement, the Muslim sacred month of Dhul-Hijjah -- the last month of the Islamic calendar and the time of the Hajj (Islamic pilgrimage) -- will start on Monday.
Dar El-Iftaa extended Eid greetings to President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and the Egyptian people. It also extended greetings to the kings and princes of the Arab and Islamic states and Muslims worldwide.
According to astronomical calculations, Muslims in Egypt will attend the Eid Al-Adha prayers for this Islamic year, 1444, at around 5:16 a.m Cairo Local Time (CLT).
The four days of the Eid El-Adha are always declared holidays for the public and private sectors.
Soaring meat prices
Eid Al-Adha, which sees increasing demand for meat, comes at a time when prices of commodities in Egypt, including meat and poultry, have soared.
In May, Egypt announced plans to import 170,000 cattle in light of the state’s endeavours to provide sufficient meat at reasonable prices for Eid Al-Adha.
