"Ahly can win the CAF Champions League every season, as they probably have been the best team in Africa for many decades. They have great players and a big budget that allows them constantly to rejuvenate their squad," the Belgian coach told OnTime Sports TV channel late on Monday.

The Cairo giants defeated the Moroccan side 3-2 on aggregate to claim the prestigious continental title for the eleventh time in the club’s history.

"Sundowns have a strong team, but Ahly have the upper hand over them because of maturity, mentality and technical abilities. The South African side are characterized by their modern football and constantly trying to outnumber and dominate possession against any opponent.

“For us at Wydad we were happy to reach the final for the second time in a row. We were not happy with the loss, but we know it is difficult for us to win the title every year. Look at Manchester City, they waited 7 years to win the Champions League,” Vandenbroeck explained.

Wydad won the Champions League title last season after beating Ahly 2-0 in the final to claim their third accolade.

The Belgian tactician extolled midfielder Marwan Attia, saying that he was the best player in the first leg, as he moved the ball smoothly from defence to offence, which made the game easier for Ahly, in addition to duo Hussein El-Shahat and Percy Tau.

"Egypt can always compete for the African Cup of Nations title, and this is a positive point thanks to the strength of the Egyptian league," Vandenbroeck concluded.
