The Treasures of Crimea (2021)
Sunday 25 June, 7pm (doors open at 6.30pm)
Netherlands-Flemish Institute in Cairo, 1, Dr. Mahmoud Azmi Street Zamalek, Cairo
The Treasures of Crimea is a documentary directed by Oeke Hoogendijk.
The film reveals that the exhibition "Crimea - Gold and Treasures of the Black Sea" is being held hostage in the cellars of the Allard Pierson Museum in Amsterdam due to the annexation of Crimea by Putin, leaving the art collection stateless. The collection has become a pawn in the power struggle between the museums in Crimea and the government in Ukraine, both claiming ownership as part of their identity. The Netherlands is now faced with the dilemma of which party should receive the treasures.
