In his cable, the pope sent heartfelt greetings to the president and all Muslims on behalf of the Coptic Church.
The pope expressed appreciation for the president’s efforts to achieve the aspirations of Egyptians while also wishing for more peace, security and prosperity in Egypt.

During the phone call, El-Tayyeb emphasized the importance of exchanging peace and love between Muslims and Christians during feasts like Eid Al-Adha.
Muslims traditionally gather with friends and family during the holiday, ritually slaughtering animals and giving the meat to the poor.
El-Tayyeb also wished Tawadros a speedy recovery following a sudden illness during mass earlier this month.
The pope concluded the call by expressing his hopes for Egypt's progress.
Eid El-Adha, one of the two Islamic religious holidays, occurs on the tenth day of Dhu Al-Hijjah, the twelfth month of the Islamic calendar.
Eid El-Adha commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's obedience to God when he was willing to sacrifice his son and coincides with the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
The pilgrimage is one of the five pillars of Islam, which is mandatory once in a lifetime for non-disabled Muslims who can afford it.
