The Minister of Finance, Mohamed Maait, said on Sunday that over the past five months, the authorities at various ports and outlets granted customs clearance for imported goods, commodities, and products worth approximately $32 billion.
Maait added that priority is given to essential goods; food manufacturing components; medications; and production supplies that ensure the smooth operation of the production cycle.
Furthermore, he noted that the government has reduced fees and penalties to ease the burden on importers.
The minister further emphasized the government’s commitment to securing the state's strategic stockpile of essential goods to meet the needs of the citizens.
“This is crucial in maintaining sufficient quantities of goods in the local markets and creating favourable conditions for price stability,” Maait said.
Securing these quantities, he said, demonstrates how the government aims to minimize the adverse impacts of the war in Europe, which caused disruptions in supply chains and an unprecedented surge in global prices for goods and services.
