Speaking on behalf of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi at a virtual meeting of the African Heads of State and Governments Committee on Climate Change for the upcoming African Climate Summit, Madbouly emphasized the continent's vulnerability to the effects of climate change.

He warned of potential consequences, including heightened drought, desertification, water scarcity, rising groundwater salinity, and increased spread of epidemics, pests, and diseases, particularly impacting coastal regions.

Madbouly emphasized that these effects worsen the challenges confronting African countries amidst global crises in food, energy, and interest rates.

These crises have resulted in debt accumulation, hindering progress towards achieving sustainable development goals, and particularly poverty eradication.

The Prime Minister emphasized that climate change, due to its interconnected nature, is one of the most significant global issues affecting the development and livelihoods of African nations.

The assessment of the magnitudes of the problem served as a driving force in formulating the vision and priorities of the COP 27 Climate Summit held in Sharm El-Sheikh in November 2022, noted the Prime Minister.

Madbouly stressed that Egypt, Africa, and developing countries at large have a clear vision, which involves implementing the 2015 Paris Agreement and undergoing a qualitative shift in their developmental models to align with the Paris Climate Agreement's goals.

The upcoming Africa Climate Summit, to be chaired by Kenya, will take place in Nairobi from 4-6 September.
