Zamalek’s new coach Jorvan Vieira is interested in signing Algerian forward Hadj Aissa during the current summer transfer window, according to reports in the Algerian newspaper Elheddaf.

Aissa, whose contract with Kuwaiti side Al-Qadesseya ended this month, has reportedly delayed signing a contract with UAE club Al-Sharjah after receiving a call from Zamalek.

"Vieira asked a mediator to call Aissa and discuss the possibility of joining Zamalek after the club’s match with Mazembe," explained Elheddaf.

"Despite not playing under his guidance before, Vieira is convinced about Aissa, especially as he (Vieira) has worked with clubs in the Arab leagues and knows a lot about the player," added the newspaper.

The 27-year-old has a strong reputation on the Arab scene, after helping his former side ES Setif (Algeria) to win two successive Arab Champions League titles in 2007 and 2008.

He also helped his Kuwaiti side to win the double last season.

Zamalek are looking for a replacement for forward Mahmoud 'Shikabala' Abdel-Razek, excluded from the team's squad since his touchline altercation with former coach Hassan Shehata during Zamalek's 2-0 win over Maghreb Fes last May.

Zamalek will play their fourth match in the CAF Champions League group stage when they face DR Congo’s TP Mazembe on Sunday.
