"Sounds of the Underground" competition is looking for interesting underground musicians and bands to perform in the September Cairo-based Street Art Festival II, with the winner going on to perform in Holland in May next year.
The initiative is run by MasterPeace, an international network aiming to promote peace through art and culture activities, which is working to showcase the evolution of underground music in Egypt. Contestants are chosen based on their presence on social media networks and the buzz they cause around the country's cities.
The chosen artists and bands can expect more exposure by performing in the 28 September festival and the overall winner of the competition, which consists of three rounds, will be flown to Holland to perform in the annual Liberation Day music festival on 5 May 2013.
The deadline for the open submissions is 31 August, a panel will then decide who goes onto to perform at the September festival. The winner of the third round, which will be announced on 11 October, will be based on online voting beginning 15 September.
