Zamalek failed to end their season on a convincing note, drawing 2-2 with a determined Pharco FC side at Cairo Stadium on Sunday.

Despite leading 2-0 at halftime, they were unable to maintain their advantage against the spirited opposition.

The two-time defending champions of the Egyptian League finished third this season behind champions Ahly and second-placed Pyramids FC.

After their crushing defeat to Ahly in the Cairo derby last week, Zamalek hoped to bounce back with a win against Pharco FC.

Their mission seemed on track as they took a 2-0 first-half lead, with goals from winger Sayed Abdallah and Senegalese forward Ibrahim N'Daye in the 25th and 31st minutes, respectively.

However, in the second half, Sudanese striker Saif Thierry scored twice to level the score.

He made it 2-1 in the 62nd minute after a VAR check before netting the second nine minutes later.

Pharco FC winger Mahmoud Emad nearly stunned Zamalek in the dying minutes, but his effort was denied by the crossbar.

Meanwhile, Zamalek defender Hatem Sokar was sent off after receiving his second yellow card in stoppage time.
