Swimming: ElKamash, Nasr fail to advance from heats at World Aquatics Championships

Egyptian swimmers Marwan ElKamash, Abdallah Nasr, and Youssef ElKamash failed to advance in the 2023 World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan following disappointing performances in the heats on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old swimmer Marwan ElKamash finished in 10th place in the men's 800m butterfly heats clocking 7:46.55s.

This is Elkamash's second event after finishing 15th in the men's 400m freestyle with a time of 3:48.31s on Sunday.

Marwan, who won two gold medals at the African Games last year, has already qualified to represent Egypt in Paris 2024 to participate in his second Olympic Games after Rio 2016.

Also on Tuesday, Abdallah Nasr finished 27th in the men's 200m butterfly heats with a time of 2:00.17s, +05.96 seconds behind first-placed Japanese swimmer Tomoru Honda.

Meanwhile, Youssef ElKamash, a 21-year-old swimmer, clocked in at 27.80s to finish in 26th place in the men's 50m breaststroke heats.

This year's championships are taking place from 14-30 July.
