In television remarks on Monday, Essam Khalil, the FEP leader since 2015, expressed the party's full support for El-Sisi's potential bid for another presidential term
The FEP is willing to actively participate in his campaign if invited, both within Egypt and abroad.
Khalil added that the party will discuss the preliminary campaign framework for supporting El-Sisi's candidacy in the 2024 elections.
Although he has not made an official announcement, President El-Sisi, who was elected in May 2014 and re-elected in June 2018, has not ruled out the possibility of running for a third presidential term.
The Homat Watan Party (Protectors of the Nation) announced on Monday its unanimous decision to not field a candidate and called for El-Sisi to run in the 2024 elections.
The party attributed this decision to its desire "to enable President El-Sisi to continue his remarkable efforts and successes in leading the country on both internal and external levels since assuming office."
Legal experts, including Mahmoud Fawzi, Secretary-General of National Dialogue, suggest that the registration period for candidates in the 2024 presidential elections is expected to open later this year.
Aside from President El-Sisi, five potential candidates, including Abdel-Sanad Yamama (head of the El-Wafd party), Fouad Badrawi (a former MP and member of the El-Wafd party's Higher Council), Hazem Omar (head of the People's Republican Party), Ahmed El-Fadaly (chairman of the Democratic Peace Party), and Ahmed Tantawi (a former MP), have expressed their intention to compete in the upcoming presidential election.
Egypt's constitution restricts presidential terms to two consecutive terms. However, in 2019, constitutional amendments were passed to extend the presidential term from four to six years. As a result, the current president can run for another six-year term until 2030.
