In a press release, the foreign ministry stressed its keenness on the safety and stability of Niger as well as the constitutional and democratic system of the state.
“Egypt stresses its full solidarity with the Nigerien people and calls on all parties in Niger to prioritise the higher interests of the nation and preserve the safety of its citizens," read the statement.
On Wednesday, a group of military officers in Niger announced that they overthrew and detained President Mohamed Bazoum, who assumed office two years ago in the country's first peaceful transition of power since independence from France in 1960.
Regional, continental and global leaders have condemned the coup and called for the release of Bazoum.
