The results of Thanaweya Amma, which are of crucial importance for students as the grades they obtain determine which universities they can join, were announced on Monday.

Students who failed in one or two subjects can retake the exams, earning only 50 percent of each subject's marks.

Students who failed in three or more subjects are only allowed to repeat these subjects in the following academic year.

Students who were unable to attend the exams for a compelling reason are also allowed to do retakes, earning full marks.

Below is the schedule of retakes for both Thanaweya Amma's divisions (literature and science):

• August 19: Arabic 9:00am-12:00pm, Religious Studies 12:30 p.m-2:00pm
• August 20: Second Foreign Language 9:00am-11:00am, Civil Education 11:30am-1:00pm
• August 21:  Pure Math (Algebra and Geometry) 9:00a.m-11:00 a.m.
• August 22: Business 9:00am-11:30am, Statistics 11:00am-12.30pm
• August 23: History 9:00am-12:00pm, Physics at 9:00am-12:00pm
• August 24: First Foreign Language 9:00am-12:00pm
• August 26: Chemistry 9:00am-12:00pm, Geography 9:00am-12:00pm
• August 27: Applied Math (Dynamics) 9:00am-11:00am
• August 28: Geology and Environmental Sciences 9:00am-12:00pm, Psychology and Sociology 9:00am-12:00pm ,Pure Math (Calculus and Integration) 9:00am-11:00pm
• August 29: Biology 9:00am-12:00pm, Philosophy and Logic 9:00am-12:00pm, Applied Math 9:00am-11:00am

This year's overall success rate for the nearly 800,000 students who took the exams stands at 78.8 percent.

The percentage is a slight improvement over last year’s 75 percent success rate and 74 percent the year before, but still below the 81.5 percent in the 2019/2020 academic year.

The top performers are students who got 70.61 percent or more in the literature track, 88.29 percent in science, and 83.41 percent in mathematics, the Ministry of Education said in an earlier statement.

Grades appeal

Students who wish to appeal their grades can apply for a grievance starting Thursday for a period of two weeks at a fee of EGP200, the ministry announced on Monday.

The appeal can be made online through their website with specific question-and-answer forms uploaded to the portal for students to answer for review.
