A combative Donald Trump alleged "unprecedented weaponization" of the US justice system on Thursday, as he prepared to appear in a Washington courtroom to answer charges of conspiracy to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

"I am now going to Washington, D.C., to be arrested for having challenged a corrupt, rigged & stolen election," the former president posted in a series of defiant messages on his Truth Social site.

"It is a great honor, because I am being arrested for you. Make America Great Again!!!" Trump continued.

In a fiery fundraising email, the twice-impeached former president slammed his rival President Joe Biden for overseeing "a dystopian Third World dictatorship that has only temporarily taken control of our once great and free Republic."

Trump also accused Biden of ordering the Justice Department to charge him with "as many crimes as can be concocted," forcing him to spend time and money defending himself rather than campaign as the presumptive Republican nominee in the 2024 White House race.

"The (Democrats) don't want to run against me or they would not be doing this unprecedented weaponization of 'Justice.' But soon, in 2024, it will be our turn," he said on Truth Social.

"I need one more indictment to ensure my election!" he added.
