In a statement, the prosecution said it ordered an official detailed inventory of the contents of the rooms engulfed by the flames as well as the formation of a committee to assess the damages and lost items.
However, the prosecution noted that the contents of the offices had been fully moved to the ministry’s new headquarters in the New Administrative Capital a month ago, while some documents damaged in the fire had previously been scanned electronically.
No one was hurt in the fire at the ministry headquarters and the fire was brought under control within a few hours, according to official reports.
According to the prosecution statement, the fire began in the server room on the first floor of the building at around 9:30am before spreading to other floors and the roof.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Housing will also inspect the building’s current structural integrity and assess the costs to fix the damages.
